Infiniti Debuts All-New 2008 G37 Coupe and EX Concept at New York International Auto Show [April 4, 07]
NEW YORK (April 4, 2007) – Infiniti today debuted two new vehicles at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, the new second-generation 2008 Infiniti G Coupe and the EX Concept.
The all-new second generation 2008 G37 Coupe boasts a larger, more powerful 3.7-liter V6 engine, available advanced 4-Wheel Active Steer system, a sleek new exterior design and a refined interior with intuitive, integrated technology. The new G37 Coupe hits Infiniti showrooms in August.
The Infiniti EX Concept features a seductive design and elegant interior and is highlighted by two pioneering technologies – an Around View Monitor (AVM) and a Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) system. Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division, also announced that a production version of the EX Concept will be available as the 2008 Infiniti EX35 by the end of 2007.
Brief overviews of the 2008 G37 Sports Coupe and EX Concept follow.
2008 G37 Sports Coupe
The all-new 2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe combines the exhilarating performance, stunning styling and modern, sporty interior of the original Infiniti G Coupe, accelerating each to new levels.
Leading the enhancements to the G37 Coupe is the first-ever application of the new 3.7-liter V6 engine with VVEL (for Variable Valve Event and Lift), which is estimated to produce 330 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque.
Along with utilizing a larger displacement than the previous 3.5-liter powerplant, the VVEL system combines hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift on the intake side, helping to improve not only performance and response but also emissions and fuel efficiency. The engine is backed by a choice of an upgraded electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission with available paddle shifters or a significantly revised, more refined 6-speed manual transmission.
The G37 Coupe’s enhanced platform and chassis offers an available advanced 4-Wheel Active Steer system (4WAS), which helps improve vehicle handling performance by adjusting both the front steering gear ratios and the rear suspension geometry according to steering input and vehicle speed. Braking and handling is targeted to be among the best in the luxury sport coupe class.
All of these advanced performance systems are wrapped in an all-new seductive skin. The G37 Coupe exterior design features flowing front fender curves, a wave-style hood, smooth front fascia with Infiniti’s signature double-arch grille and L-shaped headlights. Inside, Infiniti-levels of craftsmanship are apparent throughout the all-new interior design, including the use of unique materials and finishes with traditional Japanese design cues. The new G Coupe also includes an extensive list of available technological features – a touch screen navigation system with XM® NavTrafficâ„¢ real-time traffic function, RearView Monitor and an available 11-speaker Infiniti “Studio on Wheelsâ€â„¢ by Bose® audio system with 24-bit Burr Brown DAC, 3-way door speaker arrays with 10-inch woofers and a 9.3-gigabyte Music Box hard drive.
EX Concept
The Infiniti EX Concept, with its seductive, coupe-inspired design and luxurious interior, is a preview of the all-new Infiniti EX35 luxury crossover SUV. The EX Concept also showcases two innovative systems that are expected to be the first production versions in the world. The AVM system utilizes front, side and rear-mounted cameras to help reduce the blind spots when parking, while the LDP system takes Infiniti’s currently available Lane Departure Warning System into a new dimension of safety by actively using the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system to help assist the driver in maintaining lane position if the vehicle inadvertently starts to drift out of the lane.
Like every Infiniti model, the EX Concept also emphasizes exhilarating driving performance, combining V6 power, a 5-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
The EX Concept exterior includes many signature Infiniti touches, including the double-arch grille, large L-shaped headlights with Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), integrated fog lights, distinctive LED taillights and “dynamic arch†profile. The most striking exterior design element of the EX Concept is its dramatic liquid crystal full-length glass roof panel that is able to change from transparent to translucent via input from a special touch sensor system.
Inside, the EX Concept’s rich, leather-appointed and aluminum-alloy trimmed interior offers plenty of passenger luxury – with deep, supportive seats and an ambient lighting system that includes special indirect headrest illumination.
Infiniti offers a full-line of luxury performance automobiles, including the G sports coupe and sedan, the M luxury performance sedan, FX premium crossover SUV, and the QX full-size luxury SUV. More information about Infiniti and its total ownership experience can be found at www.Infiniti.com.

This announcement follows a record setting sales trend led by the recent launch of the all-new Infiniti G Sedan, which sold 6,544 units in December, marking its best month ever at a 65.5 percent increase over the prior year. Overall sales of Infiniti vehicles were up 5.9 percent in December, marking the best December ever for the luxury brand.
Since the Infiniti Coupe Concept was unveiled last year, there’s been a lot of speculation about the new G Coupe and what it will look like, said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager of Infiniti. We’re looking forward to the introduction of the G Coupe and the luxury crossover concept at this year’s New York International Auto Show. It’s still a few months away, but trust me, it’s worth the wait.
The new luxury crossover concept is a preview of a new entry to Infiniti’s product line that will be available at Infiniti retailers by the end of 2007, fulfilling the commitment of three all-new Infiniti vehicles in 13 months beginning with the introduction of the all-new G Sedan last fall.

Infiniti Coupe Concept Draws a New Line at 2006 North American International Auto Show
Styled Concept Vehicle Takes Infiniti Design to the Next Level
In recent years, Infiniti’s design intent has become more defined, establishing a clear vision for the brand as it expands its presence around the world.
More than just a tool to express beauty, the Infiniti design vocabulary is used to define both the premise and promise of Infiniti vehicles - usually with just a gesture or a simple line or two. The latest evolution of Infiniti’s leading-edge design makes its world debut at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in the form of the Infiniti Coupe Concept.
The Infiniti Coupe Concept draws a new line, continuing the Infiniti tradition of merging design and performance, said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division, Nissan North America, Inc. It is a vehicle of extraordinary grace and strength, with an aggressive, seductive presence.
The Coupe Concept’s dramatic exterior includes a full-length glass panel roof, gently waved shoulder line, modulated front fenders and hood, deep front spoiler, polished bare metal-look paint and large projector LED headlights and taillights with a special sunglass-style multi-layered surface treatment. It also features hidden, touch-to-open door handles and compact cameras in place of traditional outside rearview mirrors (images appear on flip-up screens located on each side of the instrument cluster).
Other exterior highlights include extensive use of brushed and polished aluminum on the Infiniti signature double-arch front grille and on other accent areas, including the side sills, dual exhaust finishers and integrated rear spoiler. The Coupe Concept’s large 20-inch, 9-spoke wheels are painted aluminum-alloy and are mounted with low-profile Bridgestone Potenza tires (255/35R20 front, 275/35R20 rear).
The Coupe Concept interior combines a performance-inspired cockpit with a luxurious passengers space. It includes an Infiniti signature double wave instrument panel design, with five large gauges, violet-color gauge illumination and integrated multi-function (navigation, vehicle systems/HVAC controls) information display. A dramatic, full-length center console includes a sculpted leather-and-aluminum shifter knob, an Infiniti analog clock and other controls, including Infiniti’s HMI (Human Machine Interface) controller similar to that recently introduced on the Infiniti M and FX. The three-spoke steering wheel includes elegantly crafted paddle shifters and wheel-mounted control buttons.
Specially textured aluminum accents, in the style of traditional Japanese Washi paper, are used throughout the Coupe Concept interior to project an image of artistic resonance and spiritual precision. The large, deeply bucketed leather-appointed front seats include integrated audio speakers in the headrests.
The Coupe Concept’s interior is both dramatically elegant and appropriately understated. It is an environment where the driver can feel cosseted and in control, with a supportive seat, paddle shifters and aluminum pedals, said Igo. At the same time, the passengers are treated to rich leather and aluminum textures, comfortable seating and an expansive view overhead. In short, the Coupe Concept embraces all that is Infiniti today and as we continue to draw a line to the future.
The Infiniti Coupe Concept was created at the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi, Japan.
